Bringing together textiles from the Freer & Sackler Galleries and the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, this project presents a vibrant tapestry of textile images that users can filter by continent, color, material, and technique. Each textile reveals metadata, including its origin and period, creating a historiographical tool to study the complexity of textiles.

This project visualizes over 12,000 of the textiles available in the Freer and Sackler and Cooper Hewitt Design Museums as an interactive tapestry. In the side panel, users can select a continent via a map, providing an at a glance view of material based on where they are originated and produced in the world, allowing connections to be made between place, color, aesthetics, and history. Users can also filter by material and processes, and click into the individual artifacts to learn more information.
